Suffolk Ensemble Mini-Review

After the Prequels died, I went and got fitted for something with a stronger shank.Where I went did not have my previous shoes in a standard shank, so I walked out after a fairly long time with the Suffolk Ensemble size 3.5 width XXXN and a standard shank.

My review:

-nice semi V cut vamp
-good quality
-very short vamp

I checked these with my teacher, but the vamp was far too short for my long toes and I am returning them soon.

This reinforces how important it is to check with your teacher about your shoes before you sew.
 See the short vamp?

Pointe Shoe Padding

I have only been on pointe for a year, but I have strong likes and dislikes for padding.

I started out with lambs wool for padding in my shoes. At the time I only did 30mins a week on pointe, so that was fine. Lambs wool slips around in shoes and makes them terrible to wear without tights. It also causes blisters. Once the time I was spending on pointe grew, I went to find some better options.

Now I wear Bunheads Pro Pouches. They are like an ouch pouch but they are thinner without gel under the foot. I personally think that too much padding is not needed for me and gel under the foot is not needed. If you got straight to a super thick gel pad, you will not feel the floor or easily be able to switch to something thinner.

My review:
-I find that they do their job and make pointe less painful
-comfy in my shoes, don't slip around
-allow me to feel the floor
-a little too high cut, but they can be cut to size

Verdict: Great toe pad if you want to feel the floor and if you don't want something thick.

Here are some photos of these pads:

Suffolk Solo Prequel pointe review

Now onto my second pair of pointe shoes. I went to another store that did not carry the b-morphs for my second fitting, so I found something else. What seemed to fit at the time were the suffolk solo prequels in a 3.5 XXXN in the light shank. Why I got the light shank I do not know, because my feet were too strong for that. I broke these shoes in very quickly.

My review on these shoes:
-I love the colour of the shoe: a light pale pink that goes great with tights
-the box fit very well
-these shoes made my feet look great
-the shank was way too soft and now these shoes are dead
-as they broke in further the heels started slipping and sewing the elastics again did not help
-one of the shoes was kind of weird has it had a lump on one side of the platform and a shorter vamp than the other
-only gave me blisters when being broken in
-overall great shoe for beginners
-however, the price was these was way more than my previous blochs. These were $112 CAN

Verdict: Great beginner shoe, but too soft for those with strong arches

Sadly, I must move on from these because the store that I go to does not carry them in a harder shank. Soon I will post the new shoes that I am getting. Right now it is between the suffolk solo or capezio studio pointes. The first time I went and got fitted after the prequels I came back with the suffolk ensemble with the standard shank, but those were refused by my teacher as the vamp was way too short.

Here are some pics of these shoes:

The arch in these is def too flexible.

Bloch B-morph pointe shoe review

My first pair of pointe shoes were bloch b morphs. It was a long pointe fitting, but eventually I came out with the shoes in a size 3 width XXX and I think a standard shank. (In the pictures they are practically brand new, as I grew out of them in just 2 months with barely any use)

Just for reference, I have square-slightly tapered peasant feet that are wide with high arches.

I am not a pro, but here are my opinions about these shoes:

-all bloch pointes come with a squishy bit at the toe that I personally do not like
-they were comfy enough at the time, but I see now that they are not very flattering on my feet
-the vamp is high and nice, but the flat platform made my wide feet look wider than they need to
-I do not really like the fact that bloch pointe shoes are made in thailand, unlike other shoes that are made in England or Russia or the US
-on the brighter side, these were pretty cheap shoes

Just to be clear, I am not saying that these are bad shoes. They just did not work for me and these are just my opinions.

Some pics for reference: (In these pictures I am wearing no padding as I grew out of these shoes some time ago)

Welcome to my blog!!!

Hi! I am Emily, and I am a dancer with Alberta Ballet's intensive division. This blog will have stretch routines and tips, reviews on dancewear and pointe shoes, and just random things.

I guess I will start off with a little bit about myself. I am nearly 13. I am a dancer with Alberta Ballet, but I only dance 7 hours a week over 3 days. On the side I alpine ski race. Although I have been dancing for nearly 7 years, I still do not have my splits, but I am now close. I love drawing and baking. At my private school I am a straight A student.

This blog will def have some tips for those dancers who are just naturally unflexible, like myself as well as baking and cooking stuff. Also pointe shoe reviews. Maybe some makeup or outifts as well!

Hopefully everyone will enjoy, I plan on posting some shoe reviews in the next few days!(heads up for the reviews: I am no expert, but I will do my best)

I don't have facebook or anything but a private instagram, but I will update if I get a public account anytime soon.

Byeeeeee:)!
